Chris Fahrenthold
Director
Chris Fahrenthold is a teacher and artistic collaborator helping dancers understand their place in the lineage of movement, image, and cultural form.
At Madison Ballet, in addition to being on the production staff, he develops narrative and conceptual frameworks that support choreographers and deepen dancers’ understanding of the works they bring to life. He also helps translate ballet—its tradition, complexity, and beauty—for both the public and the company, through outreach programs and various media across the city.
With a background in literature and the humanities, he approaches ballet as both an embodied tradition and a living archive—one that calls each generation to respond with intellect, taste, and imagination. His work draws on classical ballet pedagogy, art history, and contemporary theory to offer dancers not just insight into what they do, but a deeper sense of what they are part of.
